Changes to my programme
FAU's wildlife |
Before starting to study architecture I had heard: "Architecture students do not have life" and I remember thinking: "they exaggerate, it should not be so". But now I think that these people are right, because this career demands a lot of time and reaches unhealthy limits. I think this should change, especially to protect the mental health of the students. Taking into account the high rates of suicide that unfortunately has the University of Chile.
Another thing that I would like to
change are faculty facilities because are not comfortable, students spend many
hours in faculty that does not have a casino proportional to the number of
students, has few places of work, and is not accessible to all people. It would
be very positive to have a space for rest, especially after marathonic
presentation of workshop in which students just want to sleep a little or eat
comfortably.
One more thing I heard before
starting to study architecture was that this career is very expensive, now I
think this is so important and sad because it constitutes a form of social
discrimination, I mean, impoverished students could feel too worried about this
and even they could abandon their career because they cannot
pay for all the material they must spend.
Finally, Many teachers seem to know
nothing about pedagogy and even seem to enjoy humiliating students, making
whimsical criticisms about projects, asking for excessive homeworks and
promoting competition among students. In my opinion, this is very reprehensible
and constitutes an abuse on the part of a segment that exercises authority over
the students.
