Sebastião Salgado, photographer of truth
A photo
can make us happy or surprise us, even the photography can touch us. About that
is this post: A photographer able to shake us with his work. His name is Sebastião
Salgado, he is from Brazil, and he is 74 years and when he was 29 and being a
successful economist decided to dedicate himself to photography as an
autodidact, then bought a camera and started to travel to take photography.
Today,
Sebastião is documentary photographer and has been considered the best photographer
of the beginning of the 21st century. Salgado makes an honest work, he can show
raw reality without colors but full of lights, movements, gazes.
One of
his projects is “Immigrants”, he wanted to show the exodus of communities from
war or famine. This work is so strong and invites us to think in the humanity
like a lost value.
Another
project of Sebastião is “Workers” in there he wanted to show a simple and
honest reality of people, but the result is so dramatic and powerful. But the
result is about something common, I mean, the pain of immigrants or the force
of workers is daily and everybody can see it, but sometimes we prefer not to
see that.
I think
the photography by Sebastião is so great, because he is able to show the truth
without ornament, without poses and truth is deep and raw.
